Machupicchu Inca Citadel

This wonderful piece of architecture built by the ancient Peruvians in the fifteenth century, is nestled in the eastern side of the Peruvian Andes  that descend into the Amazon rainforest, at 2400 meters of altitude, and remained hidden for more than 4 centuries covered by dense vegetation of the high jungle until its discovering  by American  Explorer Hiram Bingham in the year of 1911. Since then receives visitors from all parts of the world, attracted by its magic and history.

Optional activities around Machupicchu

Near the citadel of Machupicchu there are optional walkings to do, always taking into account the availability of spaces that require some of the routes and the necessary time. Here are some most popular options:

Huaynapicchu Mountain

The mountain Huayna Picchu (with an altitude of 2,667 meters above sea level) located to the north of the Inca citadel, hosts important archaeological remains associated with the whole archaeological site. You can reach walking up to the top of this mountain from where you have  a breathtaking view of machupicchu  and  its surroundings. This famous mountain appears in the background of the classical panoramic view of Machupicchu and takes 01 hour to reach the top.

The space available to enter to the mountain Huayna Picchu are: 400 people per day, at two different schedules;

  • 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. (200 people)
  • 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. (200 people)

The cost of admission is an additional to the price of the ticket to Machupicchu. We recommend booking well in advance. Check availability

Located to the south of the Inca citadel, at 3082 meters above sea level. It is another natural lookout point, whichcan be accessed by a steep path regularly composed by stone stairs and  trails. From the top it has a truly spectacular view of the Urubamba canyon surrounding Machu Picchu, it is even possible to see part of the Inca trail which goes directly to the citadel, and of course the snow-capped  Salkantay mountain among other guardians of the Sacred city. The walking to get to the top of the mountain takes 01:30 hrs.

To access to Machupicchu mountain. You have to make a previous reservation and an additional payment to the admission ticket to Machu Picchu. Check availability

Intipunku means “Sun Gate”  in the local quechua language, and is the gateway to Machu Picchu through the Inca trail, and from this place, you will have a breathtaking view of the Citadel of Machu Picchu and HuaynapicchuMountain in the background. You can also get there from the same Inca citadel following  the ancient Inca trail, that ascends to the Intipunku. The ascention lasts approximately 01 hour and does not require any additional payment.

To get to the Inca bridge is accessed by following the Inca trail to the west of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, the road is flat and paved and clings to the mountainside. The Inca Bridge is a kind of drawbridge cut on a cliff, but in the Inca era was joined by tree trunks that were removed to restrict the entry as a security measure to protect the citadel of Machu Picchu from possible enemy attacks 

The easiest way to get there is taking like reference  the “Guard House” of Machu Picchu. The walking is soft and takes 30 minutes to get there and does not require any additional payment.

Located in the town of Aguas Calientes. The thermal bath is located at 15 minutes walk from the main square of  Aguas Calientes town, and at the end of the street Pachacutec. The hot water comes from the underground  through a natural spring, and its medicinal properties are very well known, the temperature of the water has an average of 38 ° C (100° F) . Currently account has facilities such as  pools, bathrooms, dressing rooms and a small bar and the office hours are from 05 am to 8 pm.
