Overview

The Inca Trail is one of the most spectacular treks in the world, and runs along an ancient sacred path of 43 kilometers through valleys, rivers and mountains. Linked by paved roads and stunning Inca shrines,the Inca trail descends into the dense forests of the high jungle and finally reachs the sacred city of the Incas Machu Picchu. It is undoubtedly one of the most requested routes by adventurers who visit Peru.

Important Note

  • Availability: Open from March to January, Closed in february for maintenance. The Peruvian government regulates the entry to the  Inca trail  allowing only 500 people per day including guides, cooks and porters which reduces to only about 200. We recommend to make a reservation well in advance.  See Availability

Day 1 Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Km 82 – Patallacta – Huayllabamba

  • Walk: 5-6  horas/11kms
  • Campsite at Huayllabamba

Day 2 Huayllabamba – Warmihuañusca – Pacaymayo

  • Walk: 6-7 hours/12 kms
  • Campsite at Pacaymayo

Day 3 Pacaymayo – Runkuracay-Sayacmarca – Wiñayhuayna

  • Walk: 7 -8 hours / 16Kms
  • Campsite at Wiñayhuayna

Day 4 Wiñayhuayna – Inti Punku – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco

  • Walk : 2 hours/4kms
  • Guided Tour in Machu Picchu
  • Return to Cusco.

Day 01 Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Km 82 – Patallacta – Huayllabamba (L)(D)

Very early in our private transport and staff will pick you up from your hotel to transfer you to Piskacucho (2700m/8856ft) a small town located at kilometer 82 of the railway, where the Inca Trail starts. We will begin the hike across the bridge over the Urubamba River to continue along the left bank of the river on a flat road to arrive at Miskay (2800m/9184ft). From there we will ascend to a viewpoint from where we will see the archaeological remains of Llactapata, and near there we will have our lunch and then continue through the valley of the Kusichaca River to arrive at our first camp Huayllabamba (3000m/9840ft), where we will stay at night. During the tour we will appreciate the beauty of the Vilcanota mountain chain as the snow-capped mountain of Veronica (5750 m) and natural richness along the route.

Day 02 Huayllabamba – Warmihuañusca – Pacaymayo (B)(L)(D)

We will start our day early and after a comforting breakfast, we will begin the most challenging part of the walk, which consists of an ascent which extends 9 km surrounded by interesting landscapes that change as we climb up to reach the highest pass known as the Abra Warmihuañusca (The Dead Woman’s Pass – 4200m/ 13776ft), where we will have a panoramic view of the are., Finally we will descend toward our next camp Paqaymayo (3600m/11808 in ft),where we will have our lunch.

Day 03 Pacaymayo – Runkuracay-Sayacmarca – Wiñayhuayna (B)(L)(D)

This day, is the longest, and interesting of our hike due to the archeological remains, and the cloud forest area where they are located. After our breakfast, we will ascend up to the archaeological site of Runkuracay (3950 m/ 13022ft) to visit it, and then continue climbing up to the the Runkurakay Pass. From where we will begin to descend by the cloud forest and reach the archaeological site of Sayacmarca (3624m/ 11887ft). and then continue toward the third pass of Phuyupatamarca (3700m/ 12136ft). There, we will have our lunch accompanied by a beautiful landscape, very close to there is also the archeological site of Phuyupatamarca which means city on the clouds, composed of sources rituals and ceremonial platforms. Continuing our walk we descend toward the Inca site of Wiñayhuayna (2650m/ 8692ft) for exploring and camping nearby.

Day 04 Wiñayhuayna – Inti Punku – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco (B)

This last day we’ll start very early at about 4:00 a.m. after our breakfast we will go to the Intipunku (sun gate), where we can enjoy the first panoramic view of Machu Picchu and take a little break before descending to explore it. Then we descend toward the citadel reaching about in 40 minutes, and then we move into the control point where we will leave our backpacks and then start our guided tour of about 2 hours. Once completed our guided tour, you will have time to explore the citadel of Machu Picchu by your own. Then we will descend to the village of Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included), and finally we will board our train to return to Cusco
